elevet+® Ampiclox Dry Cow

For treatment of bovine mastitis caused by organisms sensitive to ampicillin and cloxacillin during the dry period.

Active Constituent(s)

Each syringe contains:

250 mg Ampicillin (as the trihydrate)

500 mg Cloxacillin (as benzathine salt)

Indications

  • Routine treatment of cows at drying off, eliminating the majority of existing infections and reducing the incidence of new infections.
  • When the cause of infection is unidentified or where the presence of coliforms are suspected or known to be present as a problem on the farm.

Ampiclox Dry Cow is effective against Streptococci, penicillin resistant and sensitive Staphylococci, Corynebacterium pyogenes, Escherichia coli and other susceptible Gram-negative bacteria.

Dosage and Administration

1 syringe per quarter immediately after final milking.

At the final milking of a lactation, milk the cow normally. Clean and disinfect the teats using rubbing alcohol or iodophores, or other suitable disinfectant. Infuse the contents of one syringe into each quarter by applying gentle and continuous pressure until all the suspension is expressed and leave without milking. Wear clean rubber gloves when applying. After infusion, dip each teat in an approved disinfectant teat dip.

See technical notes for information on Withholding Periods.

Contraindications

Contraindicated for use in cows exhibiting sensitivity to penicillin.
