Wagg & Purr® Medetomidine Injection is a sedative and analgesic for dogs and cats

Dosage and Administration

Discard unused portion within 6 months of first broaching the vial. For parenteral use by intramuscular or intravenous injection in dogs and intramuscular injection in cats. (table) To get an equal effect, the higher recommended doses per kg body weight have to be used in smalldogs compared to large dogs. Maximal effect is obtained within 10 to 15 minutes. Duration of the clinically useful effect is dose related: 30 to 120 minutes for sedation and 30 to 150 minutes for analgesia. The dose can be repeated if necessary. The duration of analgesia is generally shorter than the duration of sedation. Both analgesic effect and sedative effect are reversed with the use of atipamezole injection.

Indications

Dogs - Wagg & Purr® Medetomidine Injection is a sedative and analgesic for the restraint of dogs to allow clinical examination and procedures, minor surgery, and pre-anaesthesia.

Cats - Wagg & Purr® Medetomidine Injection is a sedative for restraint in cats.

Contraindications

The safe use of Wagg & Purr® Medetomidine Injection in pregnancy has not been established and is therefore not recommended. Wagg & Purr® Medetomidine Injection should not be used in conjunction with sympathomimetic amines.
