Dosage and Administration

Cattle
SINGLE USE ONLY by subcutaneous or intravenous injection. 0.5 mg meloxicam/ kg bodyweight (i.e. 2.5 mL/100 kg bodyweight) in combination with antibiotic therapy, as appropriate.
For reduction in pain and inflammation associated with surgery administer subcutaneously 10 minutes before the painful procedure.

Sheep
SINGLE USE ONLY by subcutaneous injection high on the neck behind the ear. For sheep and lambs from 14 days of age 1.0 mg meloxicam/kg bodyweight (i.e. 1.0 mL/20 kg bodyweight).

Pigs
For SINGLE intramuscular injection in the anterior half of neck. (Can be repeated ONCE after 24 hours if necessary). 0.4 mg meloxicam/kg bodyweight (i.e. 2.0 mL/100 kg bodyweight) in combination with antibiotic therapy, as appropriate.

Horses
SINGLE USE ONLY by intravenous injection. 0.6 mg meloxicam/kg bodyweight (i.e. 3.0 mL/100 kg bodyweight). Meloxicam Oral Suspension for Horses may be used for continuation of treatment beginning after 24 hours.

Use the contents within 28 days of first broaching of the vial. Discard the unused portion.

Indications

Meloxicam is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) of the oxicam class which acts by inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis, thereby exerting anti-inflammatory, antiendotoxic, anti-exudative, analgesic and antipyretic properties.

Cattle
Reduction of pain associated with surgery.
Acute respiratory infection and diarrhea in combination with appropriate antibiotic therapy to reduce clinical symptoms in calves and young cattle.
Acute mastitis, in combination with antibiotic therapy, as appropriate, to reduce clinical symptoms in lactating cows.
Assist in the control of pain following the dehorning of cattle particularly that following heat cautery dehorning of young cattle. It is recommended that the injection be administered approximately 10 minutes before dehorning and be accompanied by a cornual nerve block anesthesia.

Sheep
For single dose use in sheep and lambs 14 days of age or older for the alleviation of pain and inflammation.

Pigs
For use in cute non-infectious locomotor disorders to reduce the symptoms of lameness and inflammation.
For use in puerperal septicaemia and toxaemia (mastitis-metritis-agalactia syndrome) with appropriate antibiotic therapy to reduce clinical signs of inflammation, oppose the effects of endotoxins and hasten recovery.

Horses
For single dose rapid initiation of therapy of musculoskeletal disorders and relief of pain associated with colic.

Contraindications

This product is contraindicated for use in animals suffering from hemorrhagic gastrointestinal disorders, impaired hepatic, cardiac or renal function and hemorrhagic disorders, or where there is evidence of individual hypersensitivity to the product.
